Does Passing Security+ Renew A+ and Network+?

Yes, earning Security+ can fully renew active CompTIA A+ and Network+ certifications under CompTIA’s continuing-education hierarchy. Check your certification records, active status and renewal dates in your account. A renewal relationship does not mean that any expired credential is automatically restored or that paying a fee alone completes renewal.

Which certifications does Security+ renew?

Security+ fully renews active Network+ and A+ certifications in CompTIA’s published continuing-education hierarchy. The official multiple-certification renewal page is the place to check the current relationship.

The condition “active” matters. A learner with current lower-level certifications has a different situation from someone whose records have already expired. Check the dates and status shown in your own account before using a general hierarchy to plan an exam.

Separate the exam result, the certification award and the updated account records. A practice score or a scheduled exam is not evidence that a renewal has occurred.

Does the order of my exams affect renewal planning?

The order can affect which existing active certifications a later credential renews. That is one useful consideration when planning an exam sequence, alongside your knowledge and intended work.

In a fictional example, Rowan holds active A+ and Network+ certifications and later earns Security+. The published hierarchy provides the renewal relationship for those lower certifications. Rowan should then inspect the updated records and retain the confirmation.

Ellis has no A+ or Network+ certification. Earning Security+ does not award those separate credentials. Renewal preserves a certification you already hold under the applicable conditions; it does not create every lower certification in the hierarchy.

Use the Network+ or Security+ study comparison to keep renewal convenience alongside actual learning needs.

What if a lower certification has expired?

An expired record needs its own current-policy check rather than an assumption that the active-certification hierarchy applies. Inspect the exact certification, expiry and account status, then use CompTIA’s current guidance or support for that situation.

Do not extrapolate from another candidate’s dates. A continuing-education route, an exam route and a historic certification status may have different conditions. This guide does not invent an expired-credential reinstatement rule.

If renewal affects an employment requirement, get the record resolved before representing the certification as current. Retain the evidence of the actual result and date, rather than a screenshot of the general hierarchy.

Are fees and continuing-education units the same as renewal?

Fees and continuing-education units are parts of particular renewal routes, not interchangeable evidence that renewal is complete. CompTIA’s continuing-education FAQ distinguishes the requirements and exceptions for those routes.

Make a small record with the credential, active status, deadline, chosen route and confirmation. Check which requirements apply to that route before making a payment or submitting an activity.

An account transaction alone does not show that every necessary condition was satisfied. Check the resulting certification record. When details are unclear, ask CompTIA about that specific record rather than guessing from a general article.

How should renewal affect my next learning step?

Treat renewal as an administrative benefit of a suitable learning and certification choice. It should not replace the question of which skills you need next.

A learner who wants to investigate incidents needs to practise evidence correlation and response decisions. A learner who wants to conduct authorised testing needs to practise scope, validation and reporting. Those tasks give a next course a concrete purpose.

The after-Security+ guide compares those directions. Continue practising unfamiliar Security+ scenarios as needed, and keep your account records and learning evidence separate.
