What are the current PMP exam weights?

The current weights are People 33%, Process 41% and Business Environment 26%. These percentages describe the share of exam content, not a passing mark for each area. PMI’s July 2026 outline is the reference for deciding what belongs in your study plan.

Business Environment now deserves regular practice alongside team and delivery questions. Don’t leave it for a final evening of definitions. A project can deliver its planned output and still fail to produce the benefit the organization needs. Your answers must account for that difference.

The weights also don’t tell you exactly how many questions you’ll see in one sitting. Exam forms and question formats vary.

Is the PMP exam still 180 questions?

Yes, the current PMP exam has 180 questions, including 10 unscored pretest questions, and allows 240 minutes. You won’t be told which questions are unscored, so answer every item with the same care. PMI’s exam information confirms the current count and time.

There are two 10-minute breaks. Once you close a section and begin its break, you can’t return to that section’s answers. Practice reviewing flagged items before closing a section.

Four hours divided by 180 gives an average of 80 seconds per question. Treat that as a pacing reference, not a timer for every item. A case study needs reading time; a short decision question may take less.

How much agile and hybrid work is tested?

About 40% of items use predictive approaches, while about 60% are divided between agile and hybrid approaches. These approaches appear across the content areas rather than belonging to a separate agile section. PMI’s updated exam page explains the change in focus.

Learn to identify how work is being managed before choosing an action. An approved predictive baseline needs change control. An uncertain product backlog needs ongoing ordering and feedback. A hybrid project can need both.

A useful revision exercise is to solve the same problem twice: once with a fixed approved scope, then with an evolving backlog. Explain why the right next action changes. The predictive, agile and hybrid guide works through that distinction.

Which older PMP advice should I check before using?

Check older advice about exam length, weights, eligibility and question formats against the current PMI pages. A lesson about risk may still be useful even when the exam facts around it are outdated. Treat the publication date as a warning to check, rather than proof that the whole resource is wrong.

Build a short audit list for your materials: Which outline do they follow? Do their mocks use the current duration? Do explanations cover business value? Are case studies treated as applied decisions rather than recall drills?

Avoid memorizing a supposedly universal answer rule such as always escalate or always assess first. The facts and the action already taken determine what comes next.

How should I update my PMP study plan?

Update your plan with current exam coverage, fresh scenario practice and timed work that matches the current duration. Keep useful knowledge you’ve already learned, then fill the gaps your materials missed.
