What is the difference between training hours and study time?
Training hours are qualifying education you can document for the application; study time is time you spend preparing. Reading, flashcards and practice questions can improve your knowledge without becoming recognized training hours.
A useful study app may tell you how many minutes you practiced. That record is not the same as a course completion certificate. Check what the provider promises before buying: is it a practice subscription, a qualifying course, or a bundle containing both?
Keep this distinction clear when planning your budget. You may need a training course to meet eligibility and separate tools to practice applying what you learned.

| Resource | Useful for | What to verify |

| Practice app | Questions, explanations and review | Whether a separate qualifying course is included |
| Self-paced training course | Structured education | Eligible hours and completion documentation |
| Live training class | Instructor-led education | Provider eligibility for your completion date |
Which training can meet PMI’s requirement?
Eligible self-paced education, qualifying instructor-led training or an active CAPM certification can meet the training route described by PMI. Read PMI’s current requirements and confirm your own route; a provider’s advertising is not the final authority.
Before paying for a course, ask for its syllabus, hours, completion conditions and the documentation you’ll receive. A course that issues a certificate only after its final assessment should make that clear at checkout.
Save the certificate and provider details where you can find them if your application is audited. Don’t submit guessed hours or treat an unfinished course as completed training.
What changes for live PMP training in December 2026?
Starting December 1, 2026, PMI lists eligible live training providers as PMI Authorized Training Partners, China Registered Education Providers and eligible accredited higher-education programs. The current PMI page sets out these categories and separately describes online on-demand courses.
Live means an instructor teaches the class in person or online. It doesn’t mean any website with video lessons. Confirm which category your course falls into and which rule applies to your completion date.
Because eligibility rules can change, check again before enrolling. A screenshot of an old sales page is less useful than a clear answer from the provider tied to current PMI guidance.
Can PMP Exam Coach replace a qualifying course?
No. PMP Exam Coach is being prepared as a practice and study tool, and it does not issue a qualifying 35-hour certificate. Its job is to help you test judgment, review explanations and work through calculations after or alongside your training.
That boundary is useful. A lesson may make change control familiar, while a scenario shows whether you can apply it when the requester is influential, time is short or the team has already acted. Knowing the term and choosing the next action are different study tasks.
See the app’s ranked answer and simulator previews before deciding whether those tools fill a gap in your preparation.
How should I combine a course with a practice app?
Use the course to build and document your education, then use practice to expose weak decisions and calculations. After a course topic, answer unfamiliar questions without notes and write down why each alternative falls short.
If you miss a question because you don’t know a concept, return to that lesson. If you know the concept but act too early, review the scenario’s sequence and authority. Those two mistakes need different repairs.
Build this into a study plan that fits work. Reserve time for course completion and for review; don’t count every spare minute as new-question time.
